About
Making architecture knowledge accessible, practical, and relevant to public service delivery.
Who Made This
This site is created by a practising UK government Solution Architect. Someone who does this work every day — navigating the complexity of government technology, making architecture decisions under real constraints, and learning something new with every project.
No consultancy brand. No corporate agenda. Just one architect sharing what they've learned, in the hope it's useful to others on the same path.
Why This Exists
When I started in architecture, I found plenty of theoretical content — frameworks, certifications, abstract principles. What I couldn't find was practical, honest guidance about what the role actually looks like in government. How to navigate the politics. How to write documents people actually read. How to make decisions when the requirements are unclear and the timeline is fixed.
This site is the resource I wish I'd had. It's rooted in real experience, not textbook theory. It's specific to the UK government context, while acknowledging that the principles apply more broadly. And it's honest about the messy reality of architecture practice.
The Mission
Making architecture knowledge accessible, practical, and relevant to public service delivery. Specifically:
- Accessible: Free, open, and written in plain language. No paywalls, no jargon for jargon's sake.
- Practical: Focused on what you actually need to do the job, not what looks good on a slide deck.
- Relevant: Grounded in UK government practice — the Service Standard, the Technology Code of Practice, the DDaT framework, the realities of procurement and governance.

A Growing Resource
This site grows as I learn. New content is added regularly — new guides, new infographics, new blog posts. The library is being developed guide by guide, each one informed by real experience and feedback.
It's not finished. It may never be finished. Architecture is a practice, not a destination, and this site reflects that philosophy.
A Note on Inclusivity
This content is rooted in UK government practice, but the principles apply broadly. Whether you're a civil servant, a contractor, someone in the private sector curious about government, or an architect in another country looking at how the UK does things — you're welcome here.
Architecture is a broad church. There's no single right way to do it. What matters is that you're thoughtful, honest, and always learning.
Get in touch: This is a personal project, but feedback is always welcome. If you find something useful, something wrong, or something missing — that's valuable input that helps the site improve.
